Ask The Readers: Squeezing The Toothpaste

While this may open up a Pandora’s Box in your marriage, I’m hoping the fallout around your house isn’t too bad. This week’s question:
[poll id="2"]
For added adventure with bathroom procedures, a bonus question: the direction the toilet paper MUST unroll is from the back/under side or from the front?
Please share you answers in the comments section below. Enjoy!

front
Over the top, not sure if that means front or back.
I believe that would mean front. Which is the way it usually must go in our house, until our kids figured out how much fun it is to unroll the entire tube. To remedy this we now have the paper unroll from the back, or sitting on the counter.
Me- I’m a total front TP-er
Hub- He likes it from the back but…he puts it on the way I like it because he loves me. :O)
OK, what does this all mean? I think it is if you’re a front person you’re right brained and left brained if you like it from the back (I’m talking about the TP not something else).
Over the top and down the front. Everyone knows that if you do it any other way, you’re doing it wrong.
Right?
From the FRONT — always from the front!
Cory you are so right on about over the top and out the front. When I was doing janitorial work, many of my clients were very insistent about their TP being loaded in just this way.
And you are right about wrong ?!
Here’s another question for you- Who ever decided that ‘down’ is the proper position to leave a toilet seat when not in use?
I choose to think it rude to leave a toilet seat in the down position.
What say you? Up or down?
Feels better to have solved these weighty world issues, doesn’t it?
I don’t care but he prefers in the front.
As for the toilet seat: seat AND lid DOWN. Why? Because you crap in there and it is gross. I don’t want to see it. I think it is completely unaesthetic.
Who has to clean the toilet? I do. Ergo, everything down. (Plus we have cats, plus toilet spray, plus toothbrushes not that far from said spray.)
Ditto, Hayden – seat AND lid down! Something always seems to get dropped in that nasty toilet – mainly the 1 year old’s toys. Disgusting.
I’ve learned to grab the seat and put it down before sitting down. If I had a perfect world it’d be lid down, but I don’t.
But the toothpaste thing drives me crazy so we each have our own tube. The TP is rarely on the roll so no one seems to care there.
toilet paper must be put on so it comes down from the top of the roll. It is easier to get when needed and the lid can be up but the toilet seat must be down. Don’t know exactly why but that is the way it was always done when I was growing up – way back when!!
Wow, so now we’ve even added more debate to the conversation. Seat down, lid, who cares in my book. This is out of respect to the wife, and due to the one time in the middle of the night when I sat down and almost fell in due to the seat being up. Rude awakening.
I always grew up “from the back.” He grew up “over the top.”
When we were at a marriage conference once, the speaker explained that it was “over the top” because otherwise the pattern is upside down. I checked this out when we got home, and sure enough!
Since I’m logical, I’ve since converted to over the top… even when our TP doesn’t have a pattern!
@ Sarah- So “big brother” manufactures TP so it goes over the top? Does it seem like we have less and less free choice? And if you deliberately have it unroll from the back, are you an anarchist?
The seat must be down. I unexpectantly took a dip in the “pool” one night and it was not fun.
The lid should be down when not in use but…
I once dropped my cell phone in………. cur-plunk! I grabbed it real quick (yuck- I know) dried it off and it works fine. I did wipe it off with a little alcohol.
My question…Who should sleep on the couch when the snoring is out of control? The snorer or the non-snorer?
Definitely over the top. My husband says he doesn’t care about the TP direction, but he just happens to always do it the way I don’t like. I’m suspicious…
Unlike which direction the toilet paper should roll (them are fighting words!), this has never been a point of tension for me. No matter whose toothpaste I may be using, I always just squeeze from the bottom, kind of like a common courtesy. I never think anything of it, but just do it as my good deed for the world for the day.
)
Why I can’t take that point of view on the toilet paper, I’ll never know.
I’m not bothered about the tp at all. Although the toothpaste thing really bugs me. I know my husband would answer this “from the middle”. AAAGH
It is interesting how the littlest of things can involve so many points of view.
Front for me… love the toothpaste question though because my wife and I completely differ on this one….
It absolutely doesn’t matter. Just make sure there is some TP there when you need it.
hey, that’s cool.. about a month ago I did that same exact clip thing with my toothpaste to save up space and keep things tidy. I think it is alright to squeeze in the middle, then later push the toothpaste up using the edge of the counter when there is less in the tube.
