I have been doing this off and on for my kids. This is a timely reminder for me that I should do it more often for the boys. It is only during their childhood now that they enjoy such things..when they grow much bigger it will get harder to “tuck them into bed”.

I am so glad to read this. I just posted about routines and bedtime is one of our favorites. My husband and I take turns each night. One tucks in and reads to the older two while the other does the same with the younger two. It’s teamwork that helps us as parents share the responsibility and it gives us intimate time with our children too. My hub kind of ebbed and flowed with help getting the kids to bed but this was due to his work schedule. He was wonderful at getting up early with the kiddos and playing with them while I slept in. Loved that! He also did more than 50% of the sick duty and always cleaned up the barf!

Thanks for this post. we have a 2 and 1 year old and my husband has always been a major part of bedtime with both kiddos. Not only is it a huge blessing to the kids, but it’s so enjoyable for me too. Joining in with the kids feeds several relationships at once-including our marriage.

Thanks for encouraging dads to keep it up.

This was an excellent post. It saddens me to realize that my ex missed all those great times with our little ones. The oldest just got married last weekend and the animosity my kids had toward their dad was painful for me to watch. When they were little he was too busy working or winding down from working or doing anything but spending time with his kids or me. He’s now remarried with two step-daughters and the toast he made at the wedding was about making marriage and family and God your priorities. I wanted to stand on the table and punch him in the face and tell him how much he missed out on by not following that advise when he had the opportunity. We have 4 amazing children that still need his support and attention, but he is still withholding it from them. It is totally his loss. Sorry to ramble on, but this post just really touched me in a painful place.

woo hoo!! my husband has been doing the bedtime routine for ages!! He does it so much that I dread when he isn’t home at bedtime (a very rare thing). I love that it gives me a break and he and the kids enjoy the time together!!
