My kids are 16 and 19. My ritual is "Hey guys, I'm going to bed, no loud TV or music!" It brings us closer every day!

@John- I'm with you on the enjoyment of bedtime. Even to the point that when I am teaching class at night, I inform my students that we will be done with class in order for me to be home for bedtime. I've yet to have a student complain about that by the way.

@Kip- What a great response from the time you put in earlier. That must be a tremendous blessing.

My daughters 29 and 33 still remind me of the stories we read and what it meant, of the songs we sang that are the ones they sing to their children.
My son 15 asked me to read to him just the other night, and even now, watching TV, will lay his head on my lap. It is HUGE to give this gift (and you get so much more back)

Bedtime is my favorite time of the whole day! I wouldn't miss it for the world. After a couple of weeks, our son started getting into the routine and he has loved it ever since. We read him a story, say our prayers and then give him a big hug and kiss.

@Dad of Divas- I wonder if there is a way to ethically study this concept? Some sort of long term study where dad is present and when dad isn't present. Many questions come up for me with this idea. Perhaps someone will pursue it later, or they already have and I'm unaware.

@Hayden- Thanks for the love.

Great post...I definitely agree that it is VERY important to be present and be a part of the routine. My eldest gets very irked if I cannot be here for bedtime due to work or other obligation... the routine and being there really means more to our kids than we can even know!
