She keeps the bills and big concerns on her plate and I get "walking around" money every week to use for buying lunch or impulse items. Once it's gone, though, it's gone until next week. It's a comfortable amount and keeps me from over-spending because I know what's in my wallet as opposed to just swiping the credit- or check-card through the machine. My wife and I are both money brainless, so we pretty much had to learn all of this by trial and error. We budget now, and some of our friends are amazed that we budget for everything.
