Welcome to Simple Marriage 3.0

3-0

From time to time WordPress releases an upgrade, the latest is version 2.8. While each of these releases added pretty cool features, each time I’ve upgraded it’s crashed the site. The last time happened last weekend. As I was heading off to bed Saturday night, I hit the upgrade button only to find when I pulled up Simple Marriage I was met with a blank white screen. Two hours later everything was restored but I discovered once again that the theme I use was not compatible with the new version.

So welcome to Simple Marriage 3.0.

For the most part, everything should look pretty familiar – there are a few new features and future additions that will be coming along in the days to come. So throughout the coming weeks there will be some minor tweaking here and there.

Look around, check things out.

I’d like your input on the usability of the site as well as any glitches or layout issues you may see. Please leave me a comment or send me an email via the contact form to let me know what you think.

The font under “must reads” IMHO needs to be larger.

A while back you had a bookstore. I liked knowing what books you thought were worthy of my time to read. I would love either that to return or a page on here with your reading recommendations.

    How’s your dog? Otis right?

Hopefully the text size is now corrected. As for the bookstore and some of the other links, they will be coming along in the next few weeks. Thanks.

I miss the black area at the bottom with the top articles in each category. Any chance of getting that back? Apart from that it looks good!

Thanks David- I’m working on getting the coding back to include this feature so hopefully it will return in the future.

  4. Were you running Thesis before? I just noticed the Thesis link at the bottom.

This particular post is missing a lot, but I liked the look of your newer posts.

I just moved to WordPress for the first time over the weekend, so I got 2.8 right out of the box. My old host didn’t have many features or much flexibility and I liked the looks of so many other WP blogs that I figured it was the right thing to do. I’m pretty happy with the new theme, but I’m having trouble getting my new art into the header and I miss not being able (so far) to put my own text into the sidebars.

Of course, I’m still just learning about all the plug-ins and widgets. As an experienced WP dude, what accessories have you found to be the most “can’t live without?”

      Akismet
All in One SEO Pack ( if your theme doesn’t have good SEO already set up.)
      Google XML Sitemaps
      SEO Friendly Images
      Subscribe To Comments
WordPress Database Backup (IMPORTANT!!!!!!! This saved me when I upgraded to WP2.8 and discovered my old theme wasn’t compatible)
WP Super Cache (if your traffic level warrants it)

These are a few of the ones I use and would encourage anyone using WP to use as well. Most are intended to help with SEO and traffic, there are many other plugins you can use if you want different features on your site. There are tons to choose from. Good luck man!

Thanks! I had the Akismet already because the friend who helped me highly recommended it. He said I could discover the rest on my own! I do need a good tool for importing YouTube, though. I really like my theme but it doesn’t import video the way the WP tutorial says the process should work.

It’s a lot of fun pushing buttons, though!

I use Viper’s Video Quicktags, it seems to work with most any video application out there, although I’m sure there’s others out there that may be even better. If you find one, let me know.
